turn the light on

The light, it always shines

Yet sometimes

we hide our faces

Too afraid to face the cloud

Scared of the reflection,

The person staring back at us

We can’t walk into the light

because we’re too stuck in the dark

Crippled by the things of the past

Holding a grip

on the things that once were

Not sure if we’re ready

to let go

The light it shines

through the tunnel

Yet it seems so far away

The darkness it’s comfort

Not safe, not even home

But it’s where we’ve lived so long

It’s hard to escape, to let go

It’s not too late,

even though we feel too far gone

Not worthy of the light

so we stay in the dark

Afraid that if we touch it,

it’ll become dark

How do we enter the light

when we’re attached to the dark

Lived with the lights off

for so long?

Alone, vision blurry and black,

unable to see anything

Only feeling the emptiness,

the depression

of the black hole we exist in

But all we have to do

is turn on the light

It’s that simple

Turn the switch on

not off

Are you too afraid

to push the button?

Or are you too focused on the past

to let the darkness go?

Do you let the darkness define you?

instead of letting the light refine you?

The light will shine within

when you walk into it

Made anew, whole and worthy.

Able to share

and shine the light

instead of walking around

in a clouded haze of fog.

The light is bright

and it shines from within

all who choose

to turn on the switch
