Never thinking we’re quite enough
Always missing the mark
Almost there, but falling short
never getting there
Climbing higher
Because if I could just reach
A little higher
I’d make it
But will you?
Because once you reach that
The bar gets a little higher
Just out of reach
We think about what we’re not doing
Where we can’t get
Because we’re focused on self
The impossible
Not the possible
We let the mind
Take over, the voice
We limit our King.
Focusing on the glass half empty
All the things we aren’t doing
Instead of what we are doing
All the good.
Clouded in a haze
Of words spoken
How others make us feel
Influencing the way we see ourselves
We take worldly views of us
Instead of the kingdom view.
Heaven says we are enough
Just as we are
But the world
Tries to steal that away from us
To tell us we can never be good enough
For them.
Lies, lies, lies
All from the wrong voices
Lies speaking louder than the truth
It’s all we hear
Because we’ve drowned out the truth
So long we don’t even know who we are
Still not measuring up
Because the standards will never be met
They can’t
Because they aren’t meant to be
They’re worldly sinful
Imperfect people expecting us to be perfect
Yet they can’t even look in the mirror
Putting the blame on us
We take it, all of it
Believing the lies and falling deeper
Into the endless pit
The destroyer cheering
At our downfall
He wants to see us continue
Down the road of nevers
That weight
That feeling that steals our purpose
All these feelings just a clouded version
Of the original view
How we are seen by the king
Is always enough
Nothing we have to do or say
Matters. Because he’s there
Always, accepting us for who we are
Loving heart with open arms
So don’t focus on the not enough
But on the enough
Because when the glass is half full
The water becomes plenty instead of empty
